At it again? Yup. This time it is strip steak. Not sure what I am going to pair it with but my mother would probably pair a vegetable and a starch with it so this could be green beans and potatoes or beans and rice. She was a great cook growing up and getting the opportunity to taste her dishes now is few and far between (Thanksgiving turkey rocked! Pork chops were the best!)
The reason I call these articles "From someone who cannot cook" is because I am a busy person who does not have the time to master cooking (EXCUSE #1). I did not go to culinary school (EXCUSE #2). Most of my life I have had multiple jobs and plenty of hobbies (Sort of an excuse, continue). I love good food and the experiences surrounding it. If I was not surrounded by people who enjoyed cooking so much and were really good at it I would probably spend more time perfecting my craft (EXCUSE #3).
Cooking is an interest. I have baked pies using a recipe, not a pre-packaged box using the individual ingredients (evaporated milk, the filling, spices, etc.) I have baked chicken and other meats, made kale chips, serviceable omelettes and even tried my hand at dishes like chicken marsala. I am OK, but that does not mean I don't like good tasting food or appreciate the skill required to produce delights that are edible, savory, and satisfying to the people who matter.
Anyways, I am going to argue (you can disagree) that you can most side dishes with this or a salad. You can disagree all you want and that is perfectly fine.
The lines did not come out as well as I had hoped. I left them on their sides a bit too long and did not flip them at the right angle (There will be a next time)
If it was just for me I would probably have cooked them at a lower temperature for longer or cooked them to more or less Medium Well. (Yes, that is absolute destruction. A travesty for sure, but that is the thing about food. You can cook it to your specification if you have the time, patience, and skill.)
This one had a good flavor and the family enjoyed their cuts. There was more pink and red sections to cut from as well as sections that were tender and cooked more thoroughly.
Next time I will get these a little more aesthetically pleasing, but the target audience for the meal was pleased and so I was. And that is all that counts. To you and yours, have a great cooking experience and try something new once in a while :)
